How do you pronounce Lompoc?
Laurie writes,
I live on Lompoc Avenue in Mesa, Arizona. We have never known how to pronounce the street, and just this morning a woman told me it's pronounced "Lompoe" in California. Is this correct? It sounds much better than "Lompock" which I always thought sounded like a chicken
disease.

Email Laurie or Email Lompoc Online.

EDITORS NOTE: It's not Lompock or even Lompoe, but "Lom-poke."

Lompoc All Star Sparks CheerleadersLompoc All Star Sparks Cheerleaders
A Cheerleader Dad writes,
The "Lompoc All Star Sparks Cheerleaders", a competition squad, are in need of floor mats. The girls currently
practice cheer stunts without any floor protection, I am inquiring on old/excess mats that any organization may be
willing to donate to the Lompoc Sparks Cheerleaders/Boys and Girls Club of Lompoc. We are currently on a sponsor
drive and have had several fund raisers but are not having much luck raising the funding required for new
mats. The girls have been working hard and have nearly achieved a bid to compete at the National Level in addition the girls recently placed 3rd in our category at a Regional competition. This awesome team needs your support.
Thanks.

Off Leash Dog ParkGriffy says, Do it for the dogs!
Cat asks,
Dear Lompoc Online,
How do we go about getting an "off leash dog park" for Lompoc?
Somewhere our dogs can safely interact with other Lompoc dogs? Right now the nearest park of this sort is in Santa Maria. I'm sure I'm not
alone in wanting this. So what do we do to get one????

EDITORS NOTE: This good idea has been tossed around before, but nothing has materialized. Maybe you could contact the city of Santa Maria and find out exactly what steps were taken there to create the park. If you find out from the city what groups or individuals pushed the plan through, you could contact those folks for more help. I imagine liability is an important issue at a dog park -- I wonder how that is handled by the Lompoc skate park, or formerly by the swimming pool?
If anyone out there is willing to take on the task of lobbying for a Lompoc Dog Park, let us know at Lompoc Online. We'll give you free publicity and help interested people get in touch with each other through email. Good Luck Dog Lovers!

"Great Photo in Reader's Digest!"
Pat writes,
I found your floral flag in the current RD and then found your website via
google.com. I viewed and signed your guestbook and have told CA friends
about this flag in hopes they will go see it, in person as I am in Florida
and not CA. God Bless America!

Sincerely, Pat

A Better Answer to Judy's Tri-tip Question
Sam writes,
Hi there,

Since I moved to this area, I had been somewhat curious as to what this
mysterious "tri-tip" was I kept seeing listed in restaurant menus, etc. When
I saw this question about what cut of beef it is from (see original email below), I decided to look it up. The links posted to answer Judy's question, don't actually tell what she
needs to know at her butcher's. I did find something that tells exactly what it is and hope this is helpful to her and anyone else with a similar question. I also thought it was a bit neat that she has moved north of the border since that is where I came from to end up in this area. ;)

Recommend a Very Inexpensive Hotel?
Charles writes,
I am going to be in the central coast next weekend. I am looking for a very inexpensive hotel to stay at for 2 nights. Where can I find a listing of all the hotels in Lompoc with their prices. I found a few links, but they were no help. I am looking for
all hotel listings with prices. The hotels listed on the links I found are too expensive. Maybe you can recommend a place that's decent and inexpensive. My email address is

Thanks for your help.

Photos Needed for a Long-Lost Lompocian
Jim Pagatpatan writes,
I am a long lost Lompocian and have been gone from home almost 17 years. My brother who now Lives in Washington state told me about this web-site. I got on it hoping to down-load some photo's of home.

Could you please put in some photo's of downtown from the 70's and now? I am also a grad of the class of 70 from LHS.

Thank You very much.

Tri-Tip Recipes, What Cut of Meat?
Judy writes,
Hi Lompoc People, Does anyone in Lompoc know about the roast called try-tip? I lived in Lompoc in 1993, every Sunday we had try-tip for our Sunday meal. We always barbecued it. We moved to Windsor, Ontario Canada. I need to know what cut the meat is from. At my grocery store no one has ever heard of try-tip.
Thank you
Judy

EDITORS NOTE: Tri-tip barbecuing is certainly a favorite pastime here, Judy. We hope some of the following websites help.

Original Mission Site Question
Randy Pickard writes,
"I would like to know why the original site of the Lompoc Mission (La Purisima Mission), before the earthquake, is not more of a publicized or celebrated landmark."

EDITORS NOTE:Thanks to Dennis Headrick, President of the Lompoc Valley Historical Society, for answering Randy's question. Dennis writes, "You're right, it's not highly publicized and it may be because of the following: There isn't a lot visible above ground at the original site except for a small portion of the chapel entry arch. Much of the remainder was buried by mudslides in the 1812 earthquake..."
