New on Lompoc Online! China Creek Remembered
B. Marc Bradley of San Diego writes,
In answer to Lynn Benedict Romine's question yes, I remember China Creek and the magic summers I spent in Lompoc as a boy. I lived near Cypress & K streets and it was quite a hike to China Creek back then. Or so I thought. I drove through Lompoc recently and marveled at the fact that it seemed such a short distance between the house I grew up in and the creek. I cannot pass a marshy area with "car tails" blooming without thinking of China Creek.

New on Lompoc Online! City Council Shooting in the 1960s?
Jan Harris writes,
Hello,
Just found this site and hope you can help. I am doing some research and wonder if you know of a shooting incident at a Lompoc city council meeting in the early 60s. Preposterous as it may sound, I think it had to do with a conflict about whether cable TV should come to Lompoc.

Thanks for your help.

New on Lompoc Online! What 's the weather like?
Kimberly writes,
I would like to know if the weather in Lompock is gloomy all the time? We
plan on moving there so please let me know any helpful information about the
weather and any other things. Thank you for your time!

Email Kimberly or Email Lompoc Online.

EDITORS NOTE: Lompoc averages only 13.95 inches of rain per year -- this is sunny California after all! Typical high temperatures range from 66 in the winter to 76 in the summer.

I don't know where you're moving from, but if you go to http://homefair.com and click on "City Reports" (under "Reports" in the left hand column) you can see how your present town compares to Lompoc in the categories of demographics, climate, cost of living, education and health, major employers, colleges and more.

You can also check out our weather link for current conditions -- it's found in the orange column on Lompoc Online's Page One, the third link down from the guestbook names. For more detailed relocation information, see the answer to "needs info...", below.

(A gentle reminder -- the town is spelled "Lompoc" not "Lompock", pronounced Lom-poke with a long "o" sound.) Good luck with your move!

New on Lompoc Online! WW II Floral Flag
Gerri Brown writes,
The Bodger Seed Company planted a living floral United States flag at the foot of Lookout Point, during World War 11. It was made up of red, white and blue larkspur.

A picture of this floral flag may be seen on page 36 in "Lompoc: The First 100 Years" published by The Lompoc Centennial Committee 1874 - 1974.

EDITORS NOTE: Thanks for the information Gerri. Can you tell us we can get a copy of "Lompoc: The First 100 Years?"

Gerri Brown answers: I would suggest you talk with Myra Manfrina, she was the editor for Historical Accuracy, Centennial Families Editor and is very involved and active with the Lompoc Historical Society.

I was aware of the earlier flag and how beautiful it was, having seen it from Lookout Point when I was a little girl. Would go to view it, when visiting with my grandmother.

The booklet is a small pictorial of 56 pages, a glimpse into Lompocs early years, ships on the rocks at Honda, the flood of 1907, etc. Hope you can find a copy, think you would enjoy it.

Email Gerri Brown or Email Lompoc Online.
