January
13 , 2003
Dear
Editor,
The
Notable Quote of January 12, 2003 is intriguing because rather
than inspiring patiotism, I feel that it is promoting violence.
It might be a joke to some of us, but to me shooting someone
is not funny at all.
I hope there is a good reason and message for that notable quote
to be on the front page of this website.
If I misunderstood something I am very sorry, but I had to show
my concern and opinion of this quote.

EDITOR'S
NOTE: Thank you for your thoughtful letter. I happen
to agree with you that the quote is questionable. That's why
the headline reads "Notable Quote?"
with a question mark.
The
quote rated front page exposure because it illustrates yet another
layer of the Flower Flag's nationwide impact.
The
flag has been publicized in Reader's Digest, many websites are
devoted to it, emails about it have reached around the world
and Lompoc Online has received numerous comments on it. The
Flower Flag symbolizes so much to so many -- the quote just
shows, in a rather crude way, what a deep impact the flag has
had on our collective psyche.
I
think your views are important, which is why Lompoc Online published
your letter even though it was submitted anonymously.
Below
is the quote in question:
Notable
Quote?
"To
see this (the Lompoc Flower Flag) in person will bring tears
to your eyes. In fact, that's a great idea, if you suspect someone
to be a terrorist, bring them to Lompoc and show them the flower
flag, if they don't well up with tears, SHOOT 'EM."
