in 1939 when I was a Senior in Lompoc High School the name change
came up -- I was vehemently opposed to it then and am just as
opposed now. Read Dennis Headrick's
letter - it gives all the reasons to be against the suggestion,
so there's no need for me to repeat them. If you remember that
Lompoc/Lompoco is a Chumash name and has been around forever,
it gives it some romance -- and out of the ordinary. Let's leave
it as it is with its wonderful history. Myra Manfrina, historian,
