Hello Lompoc!

Wow! What a beautiful weekend I just had! In the ongoing saga of my search for acreage and a living in Lompoc, I have come to a few conclusions. Number One, this area is truly a warm and friendly place to be! Two, that Number One is a closely guarded "privilege"!

I was visiting again this weekend and the same sense of a gentle, easy going "community" was everywhere. And a sense of pride and ownership in keeping it that way! I felt some of the concerns that must alternately pull at Lompoc. The need for growth, development, "guided management" of the economy. As well as a strong feeling of preservation and desire to guard the locale from "outsiders" who might try and degrade it.

I know I have come to feel the same way! Seeing the beautiful red-orange sunset across the Valley through the last sprinkles and rolling clouds Friday evening was breathtaking. The human side of me was both pleased and relieved. Pleased at having another experience to share with others... and thankful that those "others" weren't stacked up on the Purisima hillsides as they are in Orange County and San Francisco Bay!

So I guess the question is: How do you find balance between the two needs? IS there such a thing? I dunno! I'm trying to find it on a smaller scale myself! Lompoc has the serenity and peace I crave. I just need to find a place there for my worldly skills to fit in!

I do consider it a privilege to enjoy my time in Lompoc, not a right. One that I sincerely hope to enjoy more of!

And from the rear cockpit climbed Lieutenant Frank Croxford, the dashing pilot who would shepherd little Lompoc into the age of aviation.

Season tickets for Cabrillo home football games are now available. The team's going to be really good this year, with a lot of new talent and a new coach.
