An Exasperated Resident Wonders, "Wye?"
Randy writes,
I listen to the scanner every night, not until recently have I heard so many accidents because of the construction by the Wye. It is unbelievable (that) better coordination and rerouting of traffic is not considered knowing this is going to happen.
Comments? Email Randy or Email Lompoc Online.

QUESTION: Inexpensive Housing Needed
Henry writes,
Hello. I am going to be working at Vandenberg AFB sometime in FEB. What I need to find is some VERY cheap housing until I can purchase a house. The cheaper the better and it can be a little ways outside of Lompoc also. I am just having a hard time getting in contact with anybody. Thanks.
Email Henry or Email Lompoc Online.

QUESTION: Diatomaceous Earth
Hello! I am sending this from Oamaru New Zealand. Yesterday I was told about "Diatomaceous Earth" and was told that Lompoc was the place to contact to find out more. I would appreciate someone contacting me with knowledge of this.
Many thanks,
Kind regards, Linda Wilson.

I was wondering if you have any pet stores around that might sell rats. I am moving out there and I have a pet snake. And also, are their any laws or regulations I need to know about before I bring her with me? Thank you for your time.

QUESTION: Lompoc Braves Drum
Art asks,
What would be the best way to find out some history on the 6 foot drum that the school had back in the 60's? Rumor has it, that it is coming out of moth balls.
Thank You.

QUESTION: Computer Services for People with Low Vision
Doug Rose writes,
Thanks for your web site. I am a blind computer user and it worked reasonably well with my screen reader program. I have a friend with low vision moving to your city, can you direct me to any services for people with low vision, a senior group or the like?
Thanks.

Mark your calendars now! With more events in our area, we will offer walks about every three weeks instead of once a month. The planned dates for the next few months are:

March 2 & 3, 2002La Purisima Mission State Historical Park, Lompoc, CA. We liked the “trailmaster’s choice” route at La Purisima that we will hold our annual spring two-day event there.

Learn a Lot About Lompoc...
If you're reading this, you're a person who's interested in Lompoc. Would you like to to learn a lot more about your town and feel good because you're contributing to your community, too?

Dennis Headrick writes, "We (The Lompoc Historical Society -- see "Historical Society Open House", left column of this page) are in need of volunteers at the Fabing-McKay-Spanne House. Our workdays are Mondays and Thursdays from 9-11 a.m. We not only work on those days, but also conduct individual and group tours. Thursdays are usually 3rd grade tour days."

"Our volunteers do everything required to maintain the house and property. We'll find a suitable chore for everyone!"

"On the fourth Sunday of each month, we're open from 1-4 p.m. We also need volunteers to staff the rooms in the house and greet visitors, answer questions and interpret the artifcacts for visitors. We'll provide information to anyone interested. It's fun and educational."

Now you have to admit, this is a great opportunity! Email Dennis Headrick or Myra Manfrina or just show up and introduce yourself on the fourth Sunday of the month! (That's August 26th or September 23rd.)

This 'n That, Column by Ron Fink

The Lompoc Railroad
Ron's latest article about the Lompoc Railroad is complete with historic photographs.

"The railroad came to Lompoc near the turn of the last century. Prior to the arrival of the iron horse real horses and wagons were used to bring freight and passengers into the newly established town of Lompoc. Before the arrival of the modern railroad it took many days and sometimes weeks before small increments of mail and valuable freight could reach our community."
